THE SHORT ANSWER
Tesla Solar Panels, Solar Roof, and Powerwall solve different parts of a home-energy project. Compare the exact proposed equipment and installation scope rather than treating them as one standard package.
Panels and Solar Roof are different projects
Tesla describes Solar Roof as building-integrated photovoltaics. Conventional solar panels are modules installed with mounting hardware; Solar Roof integrates the generating equipment with the roofing system. Tesla’s Solar Roof introduction.
If your existing roof has useful life remaining, ask for a comparison that makes the roofing work visible. If replacement is already needed, compare the entire roof-and-energy project against a conventional reroof with solar panels. Compare equivalent scopes rather than only the solar equipment line.

Powerwall is the storage decision
Battery storage is a separate question from the generating surface. Ask whether the proposed design includes storage, which configuration is being offered, and how backup works for your selected loads. Verify the current product documents for the quoted equipment; specifications from another Powerwall generation are not interchangeable.
Bring a list of essential appliances and any large startup loads. Ask the installer to document what is backed up and what is excluded. Avoid assuming that the words “whole home” settle the design for every appliance in your house.
What belongs in the proposal
Request the equipment models, layout, estimated production and assumptions, roof-work scope, utility process, backup arrangement, monitoring, warranties, and who provides service. Ask which organization is responsible for installation and ongoing support.
Compare cash price and financed total separately. Identify the assumptions behind any projected bill savings, including your tariff and export compensation. AZSP does not treat a generic Arizona popularity claim or a projected saving as evidence that a particular proposal fits your home.
Roof work and future service
Ask how roof maintenance, removal, and reinstallation would be handled. Tesla publishes a removal-and-reinstallation support process for its solar panels. Keep that future work in the ownership discussion rather than assuming it is included in the original quote. Tesla removal and reinstallation support.
Get warranty terms in writing and distinguish equipment coverage from workmanship and roof-related responsibilities. Ask how a future home sale affects financing or contractual obligations.
Before you request a quote
Gather utility-use history, roof age and condition, your intended ownership horizon, and backup priorities. Review current Arizona incentive sources rather than relying on older federal-credit claims. This is an independent information page; AZSP is not presented as Tesla or an authorized installer.
